Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, the song we shall overcome, in general is the soundtrack of the civil rights movement. The song gives inspiration and hope and is routinely thought of when the progression of African Americans is mention. Lyrically the song resembles another known song, “I’ll overcome someday”. Published is 1900 by Charles Albert Tindley. Both songs lyrically display obstacles that one day is believed to be removed or overcome in the future. Promoting faith in God, both songs share the belief that the end results will be different and much worth the wait.
